SEO and Content Marketing Blog

Must-have SEO & social WordPress plugins

This list is ever-evolving. I could spend hours (days, even) exploring the wonderful world of WordPress plugins, but alas, you’ve got to draw the line somewhere and keep the focus on the actual content. After all, no one keeps returning to a blog becasue of its plugins.

That said, here’s a list of the plugins I’m currently using for this blog to make it more social and SEO-friendly (in alphabetical order):

  1. Facebook social plugins – it’s a must now to have FB like buttons on all posts. This plugins offers that plus other cool features, such as letting you easily drop a facebook Like box widget into your sidebar.
  2. Fast Secure Contact Form – easy customizable lead-generation forms for people who want to get in touch via my Contacts page.
  3. Fuzzy SEO queries – This baby mines long-tail keywords that drive visits and posts them as tags on the page, thus bolstering my ability to get even more traffic from those keywords (still testing this).
  4. Google XML sitemaps – auto XML sitemap… check.
  5. Twitter Tools – This one could be dubbed the ‘all-in-one Twitter’ plugin. Gives you the Tweet button for your posts and pages, auto tweets your posts (if you choose), plus offers loads of other bells and whistles. My favorite is the one that automatically bundles all your tweets from the past week and posts a Twitter roundup post to your blog.
  6. WP Touch – A plugin which formats your site with a mobile theme for visitors on Apple iPhone / iPod touch, Google Android, Blackberry Storm and Torch, Palm Pre and other touch-based smartphones.
  7. Yet Another Related Posts Plugin aka YARP- Improve your blog’s stickiness with this cross-linking dandy. It gets more  intelligent as your content grows, and has manual override capabilities when it’s dumb. You can make it more or less sensitive based on how many posts you have across how many categories (mine is still brutally insensitive 😉

Noticeably absent from this list is the All-in-one SEO plugin. The reason I don’t need this is because my blog runs on Thesis theme, a darn powerful SEO framework for WordPress.

This list is a constantly evolving thing, so be sure to check back periodically as this post will inevitably experience several updates.

Any cool or useful search and social plugins that you can recommend?

  1. Hey good list, some really useful ones in there…

The only one im sceptical of is Fuzzy SEO. I havent used it for a while, so it may have changed now, but we managed to get some rather disturbing search phrases in there for a colleagues website…managed to rank it for those however, so it must do something…

The only way we managed to control was to have a huge list of words that it couldnt use.
